Starting from 2024, stores in Germany will sell cannabis as an experiment.
An experiment with the sale of cannabis has started in Germany
The cities of Hanover and Frankfurt am Main in Germany plan to conduct an experimental project with controlled sales of cannabis, reports the German publication Tagesschau.
As part of the experiment, special retail outlets will be opened where up to 4,000 adult residents of Hanover can purchase products. Experiment participants will undergo medical examinations and participate in research. Sales are planned to start in early 2025, and participants will receive anonymous IDs to purchase cannabis.
Frankfurt am Main will also implement a similar model with additional conditions: participants must be adults, reside in Frankfurt, be physically healthy, and willing to undergo regular examinations.
The Mayor of Hanover, Belit Onay, believes that such an experiment will help understand real social needs and problems. He also noted that legal access to quality products can reduce risks associated with dangerous additives on the black market.
The experiment is supported by the Sanity Group, which is already conducting similar research in Switzerland. In Wiesbaden, cannabis sales are carried out only in pharmacies.
As of April 1, Germany has legalized marijuana, but with restrictions. Experiment participants will be able to grow a maximum of three plants, and cannabis sales will be carried out in specialized stores and possibly pharmacies.
It is also reminded about the exposure of a fraudulent scheme with investments in medical cannabis in Europe, as a result of which a lot of money was raised on an official crowdfunding platform.
