Ukrainian troops continue to hold their defensive lines while inflicting heavy losses on Russian forces. This territory is roughly equivalent to the size of Chicago, highlighting the scale of recent gains.

In May alone, the net balance of liberated versus lost territory exceeded 100 square kilometers in Ukraine's favor. Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that

“the defense forces are maintaining the initiative on certain sections of the front,”

“Russian troops are showing activity along the entire frontline,”
