Driving Restrictions: Age Limits for Drivers.

The draft law currently being discussed in the Verkhovna Rada proposes changing the rules for access to driving vehicles for elderly drivers. According to this draft law, drivers who have reached the age of 65 will undergo additional medical and psychological checks. Individuals who are 70 or 75 years old will be subjected to tests more frequently.
Experts explain that this initiative is driven by natural changes affecting driving safety. There are changes occurring that lead to a decrease in reaction speed, impairments in vision, and cognitive functions. Statistics indicate that the risk of accidents among elderly drivers increases due to slow reactions and errors in assessing traffic situations.
In EU countries, new testing systems are being developed for drivers aged 65 and older, with regular assessments of cognitive abilities. Some countries conduct annual checks after a certain age has been reached.
In Ukraine, there are rules regarding the minimum age for obtaining a driver's license, but there is no upper age limit established.
As previously reported, European countries are implementing stricter rules for drivers aged 65 and older. Mandatory psychological tests are conducted for drivers in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria. In the United Kingdom, individuals over 70 years old are prohibited from driving vehicles. Each European country has its own age restrictions for drivers.
Additionally, Poland plans to strengthen penalties for professional drivers who violate tachograph regulations.
