Cancellation of Temporary Passports: What Awaits Ukrainians from 2025.
Changes in Passport Regulations
According to inkorr.com: The time for change has come for owners of foreign passports! The Ukrainian government has decided to abolish the temporary procedure for extending the validity of these documents. Starting from October 29, 2025, traveling abroad with passports that have been extended will become impossible. Now, to travel abroad, one must have a biometric passport, which must be valid for at least 10 years.
New Passport Requirements
According to the new rules, Ukrainian citizens who are 16 years old or older can obtain a passport for 10 years, while minors under 16 will receive a document valid for up to four years. Every citizen, including children, must have their own separate passport. If there are difficulties crossing the border due to an expired passport, Ukrainians are advised to contact the consulate or embassy to obtain an identification document for returning home.
Compliance with International Standards
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has explained that these changes comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. Many countries and airlines do not recognize passports with a validity period exceeding 10 years. It is also worth noting that Ukrainians can authenticate in the 'Diia' application even without using BankID.
These changes, which will take effect in 2025, aim to improve the control over documents used for crossing borders. They comply with international standards and adapt Ukrainian passports to modern requirements, which will undoubtedly enhance security and convenience for Ukrainian citizens traveling abroad.
