A petition has appeared in Kyiv to rename a street in honor of Andriy Parubiy.
According to inkorr.com: The official website of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) published a petition proposing to rename one of the streets of the capital in honor of Andriy Parubiy, the former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, who tragically died in Lviv on August 30 this year.
The author of the petition emphasizes that Andriy Parubiy was an outstanding Ukrainian statesman and public figure, as well as a politician.
'For many years, he worked productively for the sake of Ukraine, actively participated in the creation of its democratic institutions, and established a new European-style Ukrainian army. An active participant in the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity. He was killed by a hired assassin in his native Lviv on August 30, 2025. Given Andriy Volodymyrovych's merits to society and the Ukrainian State, I propose to name one of the streets of the capital of Ukraine, where Andriy Volodymyrovych lived and worked, after him. I ask all citizens to support the petition', – the text of the petition states.
Circumstances of the Murder
Let us remind you that on August 30, 2025, in Lviv, on Yefremova Street, an unknown person posing as a courier shot at Andriy Parubiy. Due to the inflicted wounds, the politician died on the spot. The shooter escaped on an electric bicycle, prompting a special operation called 'Siren', and law enforcement began an investigation. 36 hours after the murder, the suspect was arrested in the Khmelnytskyi region, charged with intentional murder and illegal possession of weapons under Ukrainian law.
Investigation Versions
The Security Service of Ukraine reported possible involvement of Russian special services in the murder of Parubiy. According to the SBU, this crime was ordered, and the investigation indicates a possible 'Russian trail' in the case.
Andriy Parubiy is a Ukrainian politician and historian, co-founder of the 'People's Movement' party, longtime Member of Parliament of Ukraine, former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.
The petition in honor of Andriy Parubiy opens an important discussion about memory and honoring outstanding personalities in Ukrainian history.
