Journalist and public figure Zhanna Nemtsova spoke about her relationship with Pablo Gonzales, a Russian spy. In an interview, she confirmed that they had a romance during which Gonzales, under the guise of a journalist from Spain, monitored the Russian opposition in Europe. Nemtsova stated that their relationship lasted from 2017 to 2019.

After meeting at a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Nemtsova and Gonzales spent several years together. The first suspicions about Gonzales arose after a conversation with her friend.

Nemtsova even suggested exchanging Gonzales for Russian oppositionist Kara-Murza. However, in 2023, Gonzales was detained, and Nemtsova was questioned by Polish investigators.

Gonzales was a Spanish journalist performing tasks for Russian intelligence in the Ukrainian war zone. He was also acquainted with B. Nemtsov's daughter. In 2022, he was arrested in Poland, but in 2024 he was released.

Nemtsova and Gonzales met in 2016 during a meeting where she called for appointing a special rapporteur to investigate her father's murder. After that, their friendship warmed into a romantic relationship.

Over Time, Gonzales began to perform tasks for Russian intelligence and attract the attention of the Russian opposition. He also worked in Ukraine and was in contact with local politicians and military personnel.

Polish special services detained Gonzales in 2022 on suspicion of espionage, but they were unable to arrest him. There is evidence in the case of his connections to Russian intelligence and the transfer of confidential information about Russian opposition figures.
