Stock up: water quality in Kyiv may deteriorate sharply.
In Kyiv and the adjoining regions, concerns are growing regarding the water quality of the Desna and Seym rivers. Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Olena Kramarenko reported that the situation is under constant control. According to samples taken on September 4, organic pollution has been recorded in these rivers.
This is reported by Liga.net.
Pollution may reach Kyiv's water intake
The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center forecasts that the pollution may reach the Desna water intake of Kyiv around September 10-12. Experts note a slight exceedance of the standard for the chemical oxygen demand indicator, as well as an increased content of iron and manganese in the water intakes of Kyiv and Brovary. However, the indicators of biogenic and chemical pollution remain within the norm, and there are currently no risks for water intake.
The Kyiv City State Administration assures that the water quality situation in the capital is controlled. Profile services constantly monitor the condition of drinking water in the territory of Kyiv and the water areas of the Desna and Dnipro rivers.
In case of water quality deterioration, PJSC "AK "Kyivvodokanal" is ready to immediately adjust technological processes and apply additional reagents for water disinfection to ensure that drinking water quality indicators meet the requirements of the State sanitary norms and regulations.
Measures are being taken to prevent water quality deterioration
At a meeting of the Standing Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations, action algorithms for preventing water quality deterioration were discussed. City services are developing a set of measures to ensure that Kyiv consumers have drinking water in case of worsening conditions.
Individual organizations and institutions can also develop their own response plans for possible scenarios, including creating water reserves. In addition, Kyiv residents should take care of having a certain stock of water in their homes.
Moreover, a quarantine has been introduced in Kyiv due to a dangerous plant.
