The Register of Mine-Contaminated Territories of Ukraine Will Start Operating in 2025: Details from Klimenko.
According to FREEДOM:
Launch of the Register of Contaminated Territories in Ukraine
In December 2025, Ukraine will create a Register of territories contaminated or potentially contaminated by explosive munitions. This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klimenko, reports FREEДОМ.
Mine Clearance Operations
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, sapper units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) have cleared more than 250 thousand hectares of territory, neutralizing and destroying about 790 thousand explosive items. The register, which is currently actively being developed, will be accessible to legal entities starting from the beginning of 2026. After testing and implementation, access to the register will also be opened for individuals who have ownership rights, rental agreements, or other documents on land plots.
The Mine Situation in Ukraine
The head of the UN Mine Action Programme in Ukraine, Paul Heslop, reported that over a million mines are scattered across Ukrainian territory, and deactivation may take more than ten years. Russian troops continue to set traps in some regions during their retreat, involving anti-tank and anti-personnel mines.
The creation of the Register of Contaminated Territories will be an important step in combating the mine danger in Ukraine. This initiative will help not only in systematic information about hazardous areas but also improve public awareness and assistance to lawyers regarding the status of areas that may be potentially dangerous to the life and health of people. According to existing estimates, clearing territories of mines will take a long time, so it is important that all responsible services work in a coordinated and effective manner. We hope that this register will significantly ease this task.
