German Biathlon Team Will Receive Olympic 'Gold' in 10 Years.

The German biathlon team received the "gold" in the men's relay at the 2014 Olympic Games after ten years. This was announced by the International Biathlon Union (IBU) based on the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) verdict.

In 2020, Russian athletes Evgeny Ustyugov and Svetlana Sleptsova were found guilty of anti-doping rule violations in the 2013/14 season. Traces of oxandrolone were found in Ustyugov, and ostarine in Sleptsova.

The athletes' appeal was rejected after four years. Thus, most of Ustyugov's and Sleptsova's results in the 2013/14 season were annulled, including the results at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.

As a result of Ustyugov's disqualification, the Russian team lost the "gold" in the men's relay. Medals were also stripped from Alexey Volkov, Dmitry Malyshko, and Anton Shipulin.

The silver medalists of the men's relay at the 2014 Olympics - Germans Erik Lesser, Daniel Böhm, Arnd Peiffer, and Simon Schempp - became Olympic champions, while the Austrian team received the silver medal, and Norway - the bronze.

The deserved celebration of the "gold", the emotions, and the moment of Olympic victory are lost forever. But at least there is finally clarity and justice. We congratulate our biathletes on their Olympic victory and hope for many more fair competitions in the future.

Vita Semerenko, a Ukrainian biathlete, was temporarily suspended from competitions due to anti-doping rule violations. She was listed by the National Anti-Doping Center of Ukraine (NADCU).

French biathlete Julia Simon was found guilty in a fraud case.

The former president of the International Biathlon Union, Besseberg, was sentenced to three years in prison for corruption.

Conclusion of the Biathlon World Cup

On March 17, 2024, the competitions in the 2023/24 Biathlon World Cup season concluded. A total of 58 awards were distributed, with representatives from eight countries occupying podium places. For the first Time in two years, the Ukrainian team finished the World Cup season without any awards. From 2019 to 2022, Ukraine won at least one award.
