Zelensky announced new exchanges - who will be released from Russian captivity.
Ukraine is actively preparing for new prisoner exchanges according to agreements made in Istanbul. The country's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, emphasized that work on the release of detained individuals is ongoing at full speed, regardless of their status.
Coordination of exchanges
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, along with various state services including the GUR, Ministry of Internal Affairs, SBU, Office of the President, Ombudsman, and the Coordination Staff, are actively working on the exchanges. Several stages of exchanges have already taken place, and new ones are being prepared to fulfill the agreements made in Istanbul. The main goal is the release of Ukrainians, both military and civilian.
The persistence of the Ukrainian team has led to an increase in exchanges during this period. Many people who were in captivity have already returned to their families, including those who were once considered missing or were held in Russian prisons. Zelensky emphasized the need for rehabilitation of the released and the continuation of investigations into war crimes against Ukrainians who were held in captivity.
The next meeting with the Russian side is scheduled for July 23 in Turkey.
