Zelensky Demands Accountability for Weapon Depot Placement in Vyshneve.
Ukrainian President's Statement on the Vyshneve Incident
According to UATV: President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for the prosecution of officials responsible for placing ammunition depots in Vyshneve, in direct violation of existing prohibitions. This demand follows a tragic explosion on July 11, 2023, marking the 1,599th day of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In response, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Prosecutor General's Office have launched investigations into the blast's circumstances.
Investigation Findings and Calls for Action
SBU Major General Poklad reported that Ukraine has designated storage sites for weaponry. President Zelensky stressed the need to hold every individual involved in the incident accountable, stating:
“Each of them must face fair accountability.” — Volodymyr Zelensky
He further emphasized that “the Security Service of Ukraine, together with other law enforcement agencies, must inspect other similar facilities.”
Additionally, Zelensky highlighted the urgency of strengthening collaboration with Ukraine’s international partners to fulfill arms supply agreements, noting that “a new quality of work with Ukraine’s partners is required.” He also underscored the importance of a thorough investigation, stating that “the full truth and a Christian honoring of the fallen are what is needed.”
This situation underscores the critical need for strict safety protocols in weapon storage across Ukraine, especially during active warfare. Proper accountability and transparent investigations into such incidents are essential to maintaining public trust in law enforcement and state institutions. The findings must serve as a foundation for improving security and military resource management practices.
