According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed his willingness to engage Russia in talks concerning territorial issues, but insists any such negotiations must occur during a face-to-face meeting. This stance has led to a dispute over where a potential meeting between Ukrainian and Russian delegations could be held.

Zelenskyy stated that the Ukrainian delegation will not agree to meet on the territory of Russia or Belarus. The Kremlin, for its part, has called for the Ukrainian side to come to Moscow. The Ukrainian President emphasized that the only remaining obstacle to achieving peace is the Kremlin's position.

"I will not give up Donbas; a different solution is needed," Zelenskyy noted.

American businessman and politician Donald Trump has expressed a readiness to act as a mediator in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. However, as of now, neither Ukraine nor the US has received official confirmation from Russia of its willingness to meet.

"We were not thrilled by this idea," Zelenskyy commented.

In the context of preparing for potential talks, Zelenskyy also confirmed Ukraine's readiness for elections and a referendum:

  • Are we ready for elections? We are ready.
  • Are we ready for a referendum? We are ready.

Thus, the Ukrainian side demonstrates its openness to dialogue but stresses the necessity of adhering to specific conditions for negotiations to proceed.

These statements from President Zelenskyy highlight the current stage of Ukraine's diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict with Russia. The Ukrainian position on the location of talks underscores the importance of sovereignty and security for the nation. Meanwhile, the involvement of international mediators like Donald Trump could alter the dynamics of negotiations, though no concrete steps from Russia to begin dialogue are currently observed. This moment could become a significant factor in the further development of the situation. The ongoing war, now in its third year, makes the logistics and security of any high-level meeting a critical concern for Kyiv.
