Zelenskyy Sets Conditions for Talks with Russia: U.S. Holds the Key to the Timeline.
U.S.-Ukraine-Russia Negotiations
According to UATV: The timing and venue for potential negotiations involving the United States, Ukraine, and Russia hinge on decisions made by Washington, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. A meeting originally scheduled for March 10-11 was postponed, partly due to a U.S. military operation in Iran. Zelenskyy noted that American officials have expressed willingness to meet, but only on U.S. soil, citing security concerns and the ongoing war as reasons they cannot currently travel abroad.
Possible Dates and Locations
The trilateral talks are now expected to take place sometime the following week, roughly between March 16 and 22. Zelenskyy also mentioned that Switzerland and Turkey are being considered as alternative venues for the meeting.
“We have confirmed Turkey. We have confirmed any country and said we are ready for a meeting next week,” the Ukrainian president emphasized.
This situation highlights the intricate nature of diplomatic efforts amid ongoing conflicts and shifting foreign policies. The postponement suggests that external factors, such as military campaigns, can significantly disrupt international relations. The next moves by the U.S. could carry major implications for regional stability and the trajectory of Ukrainian-Russian relations.
