Zelensky: The risk of an 'Afghan scenario' when ending the war.
There is experience of what happens when someone completes something thoughtlessly and retreats very quickly
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky noted that there is a risk of repeating the 'Afghan scenario' in the reckless ending of the war. In an interview with the German television channel ARD, he recalled the chaotic withdrawal of Western troops from Afghanistan in 2021, which led to the Taliban's takeover of the country.
The president stressed that simply ceasing fire will not bring success. He noted that in the US, statements that please Putin are actively discussed since Washington seeks a quick deal with Moscow. Zelensky emphasized that negotiations about Ukraine's future cannot take place without its participation.
The president also expressed criticism regarding the weakness of European military forces and warned of a possible Russian invasion through Belarus. According to him, Ukraine needs security guarantees, and without US support, winning the war will be impossible.
Zelensky also revealed his vision for ending the war. He stated that Russia knows that his negotiations are responsible and they wish to get rid of him. The president added that when Ukraine becomes a member of the EU and NATO, Russian troops will leave its territory, and the country will receive strong security guarantees. But currently, this is not the case, and Zelensky will defend his country.
Earlier, Zelensky expressed an important requirement for achieving peace.
