Statement by Volodymyr Zelenskyy
According to TSN.ua: Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that if the United States insists on holding elections, Ukraine would need a two-month ceasefire to prepare for them. This statement highlights the immense logistical and security challenges of organizing a national vote during wartime.
Zelenskyy emphasized that successful election organization requires time.
"If Washington insists on this, Ukraine will need two months of a ceasefire for preparation," the President noted. He also expressed hope that U.S. President Donald Trump could influence Vladimir Putin to help secure such a truce.
Election and Referendum Plans
Furthermore, on February 24, Volodymyr Zelenskyy may announce preparations for presidential elections and a nationwide referendum.
"We will go to the elections," he stressed. The President also expressed readiness to offer Russians a ceasefire if they hold elections in Russia. "Give us a ceasefire," Zelenskyy added.
President Zelenskyy's remarks at the Munich Security Conference underscore the complex realities Ukraine faces in balancing democratic processes with an ongoing conflict. His proposal for a two-month truce points to the critical need for international backing, particularly from the U.S., to ensure stability during an electoral period. This may also signal a continued pursuit of diplomatic channels and a potential path toward de-escalation with Russia.
