Zelenskyy Assesses Air Force Performance and Energy Crisis Amid Drone Attacks.
Air Force Effectiveness and Energy Situation Under Review
According to UATV: On February 6, 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the Commander of the Air Force and the Minister of Defense to review the effectiveness of downing hostile 'Shahed' drones and to assess the energy situation. The ongoing Russian invasion has made air defense and critical infrastructure protection paramount national priorities. During the meeting, the head of state expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the Air Forces in certain Ukrainian regions, stating,
"I consider the work of the Air Forces in some regions of Ukraine to be unsatisfactory."
Energy Sector Crisis and Support for Affected Civilians
Zelenskyy also focused on urgent problems in the energy sector, highlighting the situation in Kyiv where over 1,200 residential buildings were left without heating. This crisis unfolded against the backdrop of attacks by the Russian army, during which the following were recorded:
- 328 strike unmanned aerial vehicles of the 'Shahed', 'Gerbera', and 'Italmas' types
- 2 'Kinzhal' aeroballistic missiles
- 5 Kh-59/69 guided aviation missiles
The President emphasized that
"more support is needed for people from such houses,"pointing to the necessity of providing aid to residents affected by the strikes. He also noted that 'not for a single day have such attacks ceased,' underscoring the persistent nature of the threat. This situation demands active measures from the state to improve security and ensure the vital needs of citizens.
The discussion between the President and military leadership underscores the critical situation in Ukraine, where constant attacks by the Russian Federation create serious challenges not only for defense but also for ensuring normal civilian life. In wartime conditions, it is crucial to support both military and civilian aspects, as the safety of the population and the stability of energy supply are key to the country's survival. The state's response to these challenges will determine the further course of events in the region.
