Zelensky on security guarantees from the USA: what has already been agreed upon in the documents.
Agreement between the USA and Ukraine
According to ТСН: The majority of key points of bilateral agreements between the United States and Ukraine have already been agreed upon and recorded in five documents.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned this during a conversation with journalists, noting that this is an important step towards obtaining legally binding security guarantees. He emphasized that these guarantees primarily depend on President Trump, asking which of them he is willing to provide to Ukraine. Zelensky stressed:
“For us, it is very important that there is a signal that we want legally binding security guarantees. And this depends, first of all, on President Trump. The question is, what security guarantees is President Trump ready to give to Ukraine. I know that legally binding ones depend both on President Trump and the position of Congress. I will definitely be grateful to him if this aligns with our desire for his decision.”
Zelensky also reminded that the United States has offered Ukraine a term of security guarantees for 15 years, but Kyiv is striving for an even longer term.
“I think we are ready with these documents, although there are some technical matters for further discussion,” he added.
The President of Ukraine clarified that both sides will submit the security guarantees for ratification to their legislative bodies.
Currently, the process of agreeing on security guarantees is key to strengthening the relations between Ukraine and the USA. An important component of this process is the support of the US Congress, which can influence further decisions regarding the security of Ukraine. Therefore, subsequent negotiations will be decisive for reaching a consensus between the parties.
