Zelensky spoke about a phone conversation with Trump.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about the details of his conversation with US presidential candidate Donald Trump at the end of July 2024. He provided this information during an interview with American journalist CNN's Fareed Zakaria.
Zelensky noted that Trump supported Ukraine and understands how difficult it is for it to survive during the war. The president also spoke about his intention to share a peace plan with both US presidential candidates - Trump and Kamala Harris, as well as with current US President Joe Biden. According to Zelensky, this is an honest and correct decision. The plan will be published only after it is discussed with the mentioned individuals.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Trump expressed commitment to our state and understanding of how difficult it is to survive during the war.
Zelensky also commented on Trump's behavior during the debates with Harris on September 10, during which Trump twice avoided directly answering whether he wants Ukraine to win the war. Instead, Trump said that ending the hostilities is beneficial for the USA.
According to Zelensky, he does not understand what Trump meant by his statements. The president also noted that politicians' words during election campaigns do not always reflect their real intentions. He admitted that Trump's statements caused concern among Ukrainians, but emphasized that the conversation with him took place on a positive note.
"But my position is that the pre-election period and pre-election statements are pre-election statements. Sometimes they are not very real. These statements, of course, caused us to worry about our people. But I had a phone conversation with Donald Trump, and it was very friendly, we had a good conversation... He understands how difficult it is to survive during the war. That is why I want to share this plan to hear his reaction," the leader of Ukraine added.
Recall that Trump refused to participate in the repeat debates with Harris.
