For the First Time, the U.S. Views Missile Licenses for Ukraine Favorably, Says Zelensky.
Ukraine-U.S. Cooperation on Missile Production
According to Espreso.tv: During a joint press conference with Honduran President Nasri Asfura, Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the United States has begun to look positively on granting licenses for missile production in Ukraine. This development comes as Russia accelerates its own ballistic missile manufacturing. Zelensky emphasized that Washington’s current stance on Ukrainian missile licenses marks a significant shift from previous positions.
Zelensky had previously requested such licenses from the Biden administration. Notably, Germany already holds some missile production licenses. The U.S. currently produces only 60 to 65 antiballistic missiles per month—a figure Zelensky described as critically insufficient to meet modern threats.
Missile Manufacturing and International Partnerships
On June 17, the G7 nations and the United States declared their readiness to produce long-range missiles and air defense systems in Ukraine under license. Ukraine and Germany have also agreed to jointly develop antiballistic capabilities and manufacture interceptor missiles. On May 31, Zelensky sent a letter to the White House and Congress requesting licenses to produce missiles for the Patriot system. These steps underscore the intensifying defense collaboration between Ukraine and its international allies.
This information highlights the growing military cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, as well as other Western nations, amid the current security crisis in the region. The positive reception of missile production licenses could significantly enhance Ukraine’s defensive capabilities against Russian aggression while fostering the growth of its domestic defense industry. Engagement with Germany and other G7 countries in this area further underscores the critical role of international support in Ukraine’s fight for sovereignty.
