Zelensky and Trump to Meet on December 28: Key Issues of the Peace Plan.
According to ТСН: U.S. President Donald Trump has scheduled a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on December 28 in Palm Beach to discuss issues of peaceful settlement.
Negotiation Plan
The main plan, consisting of 20 points, is supported by four parties: Ukraine, the USA, Russia, and Europe. To sign the document, consensus among all participants is required. The leaders' meeting aims to address issues that are difficult to discuss at the advisor level.
Controversial Issues
Ukraine's 'Peace Plan' envisages security guarantees, the structure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in peacetime, the conduct of presidential elections, non-aggression agreements, and further state development.
Zelensky emphasized that there are two key controversial issues: the status of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and territorial issues, particularly the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from parts of the Donetsk region not controlled by Russians. These issues are also planned to be discussed with Trump.
“We have several agreements on security guarantees between us and the USA. There are framework issues between us, the USA, and our European colleagues. In my opinion, I see now that an agreement between us and the United States is almost ready. And the question – to sign or not to sign, in my opinion, is a secondary issue, depending on the format of our meeting,” said Zelensky.
Possible Reaction from Russia
The information regarding Russia's reaction to the agreement reached between Kyiv and Washington remains unclear.
“One of the key goals for Ukraine and its European allies is to convince Trump that the real obstacle to peace is Russian President Vladimir Putin, not Zelensky,” journalists note.
Importance of Trump's Position
Recently, Trump stated that the resolution of the conflict caused by the RF depends on his position, not Zelensky’s.
“He has nothing until I approve it. Let's see what he will have,” he noted.
Additionally, in a conversation with the New York Post, Trump expressed positive hopes for the conclusion of a peace agreement during Zelensky's visit on December 28, noting:
“I think we have a good chance of this,” he commented.
On December 25, Zelensky reported on a conversation with U.S. President representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, during which they discussed “some significant details of the work.” Members of the Ukrainian delegation, who participated in the negotiations in Miami, were also present at the meeting.
This meeting between Trump and Zelensky could be an important step towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. Given the key issues such as the status of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and territorial integrity issues, the outcomes of the negotiations may influence the further dynamics of relations between Ukraine and Russia. It is essential to monitor the developments and possible changes in the international context.
