Mandatory Subjects for Ukraine's 2027 University Entrance Exam: Government Bill Reveals Key Details.
New Legislative Proposal for 2027 Admission Requirements
According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine's government has introduced a bill outlining the 2027 admission process, which keeps the current structure of the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) in place. Under the proposed rules, history, Ukrainian language, and mathematics will remain compulsory subjects for all test takers.
In 2023, over 350,000 individuals registered for the NMT. Education Minister Serhiy Lisovyi emphasized that the exam is designed to assess fundamental skills—reading, writing, and arithmetic.
“That is why mathematics must stay a mandatory subject,” — Serhiy Lisovyi. These changes aim to ensure a high-quality selection of applicants and maintain strong knowledge levels in essential academic areas.
Upholding Educational Standards
By preserving the current testing framework, the government seeks to bring stability to the education system and improve how well young people are prepared for higher education.
This bill represents a significant step in reforming Ukraine's education system, as it helps uphold standards for applicant readiness. Given the high number of NMT participants in 2023, the testing model appears to enjoy broad support among students. At the same time, keeping these mandatory subjects could play a key role in raising the overall academic performance of school graduates.
