Winter Energy Challenges: How Ukrainians Can Prepare for Outages.
According to inkorr.com: In the conditions of numerous accidents in the energy system, Ukrainians are beginning to prepare for possible winter outages of electricity, heating, and water supply. Experts advise not to panic, but to prepare in advance a basic supply of necessary items to ensure comfort and calm in case of major troubles.
Warmth is the Most Important
Warm blankets, sleeping bags, woolen socks, thermal underwear - all of this really helps. If possible, seal the windows with weather strips or warm film - heat loss decreases significantly.
A gas or ceramic heater will also come in handy, but use it only in ventilated rooms. Don't forget about the carbon monoxide detector - it's a guarantee of safety.
Water - Gold in the Darkness
Keep a supply of drinking water - at least a few liters for each person. It's also good to have technical water for toilets and washing. If you have a pump or a booster station in your house, fill canisters in advance - because without electricity, water won't fill.
Food That Fears Darkness
Canned goods, cereals, pasta, pates, nuts, dried fruits - everything that doesn't spoil without a refrigerator. Add a little chocolate or energy bars - they will come in handy when there's no strength to cook.
If you have camping fuel - it will be useful. However, remember the need for ventilation and do not use it for heating the room.
Light and Communication
Power banks are a must-have. It's better to have a few, enough for your phone, flashlight, and radio. A headlamp is more convenient than candles. But if you use candles - place them away from curtains.
A battery-operated radio or one with a manual wind will allow you to stay connected even if the internet is down.
First Aid Kit and Documents
It's necessary to have basic medications: pain relievers, antiseptics, bandaging materials, as well as your regular medicines.
Make copies of documents and save them on your phone or flash drive. Cash will also be needed, as ATMs do not work without electricity.
And Finally - About Calm
There’s no need to buy everything at once. Start with the basics: warm clothes, water, food, light. Team up with your neighbors - it's easier together.
Agree in advance on how you will stay in touch if the mobile network goes down, and who can help those living alone or are elderly.
Ukrainians are not facing such difficulties for the first time in the winter months and always show their ability to adapt. So the most important thing now is not to panic and prepare carefully. Warmth, water, light, calmness, and mutual assistance are the most important in this situation.
