Paramedics mistakenly declared a woman dead: details of the tragic investigation.
According to ТСН: A 54-year-old resident of Darlington, Olive Martin, became the center of an investigation after she lost consciousness while preparing breakfast on October 13. The paramedics who arrived on the call accidentally deemed her deceased and instead of providing medical assistance, took her to the morgue. This decision has become the subject of a detailed investigation.
The Martin family claims that Olive could have been alive for at least two hours, and timely medical assistance could have significantly affected her condition. In court, it was revealed that signs of life were found in the morgue: reactions to stimuli and minimal brain activity.
Unfortunately, Olive could not be saved – she died from brain damage due to prolonged oxygen deprivation. The question remains open as to how long she was unconscious and without medical assistance before emergency services arrived.
The Durham police completed the criminal investigation and did not file any charges. The ambulance service stated that the incident prompted an internal review and expressed condolences to the family.
Relatives describe Olive as a kind, cheerful, and strong woman whose death they mourn deeply.
Court hearing and further actions
The next court hearing is scheduled for January 30, where events from the moment of unconsciousness until the discovery of signs of life in the morgue will be analyzed in detail. This will help determine whether the paramedics could have acted differently to avoid the tragic outcome.
This case highlights the importance of prompt medical assistance in critical situations, as timely intervention can sometimes save lives. The case continues to be investigated to clarify all circumstances that led to this tragedy.
