Details Emerge on Destruction of Russian Corvette 'Boykiy' in the English Channel: Podolyak Weighs In.
Russian Corvette 'Boykiy' Destroyed
According to UATV: Ukrainian defense forces have eliminated the Russian corvette 'Boykiy', a vessel that was escorting tankers through the English Channel. Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine, confirmed the incident. The strike occurred on June 3, 2023, when Ukrainian military personnel targeted the ship, which was actively protecting vessels from the so-called shadow fleet navigating the Channel.
The destruction of the 'Boykiy' was part of a larger operation in which Ukraine's defense forces hit several strategic assets inside Russia. These targets included:
- oil refineries
- fuel storage depots
- military bases
- airfields
Notably, the oil terminal 'Sankt-Peterburg' was struck within Russia. On the same day, June 3, 2023, a corvette of Project 20380, the 'Steregushchiy' class, was also hit in Kronstadt.
Russia's Technological Lag
“It has always been a technologically backward raw materials country that fights only with numbers, that is, with human meat.” - Mykhailo Podolyak
Podolyak further stressed that combating Russia effectively requires stringent and mandatory sanctions.
“Only coercive sanctions—tough and compulsory—can work against Russia.” - Mykhailo Podolyak
This event marks a significant moment in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, showcasing Ukrainian forces' efforts to counter aggression and bolster their defensive capabilities.
The incident underscores Ukraine's active campaign to dismantle Russian military infrastructure and protect its regional interests. Given the current trajectory, further strikes on strategic sites could signal a new phase in the protracted war. Podolyak's call for harsh sanctions also reflects Ukraine's push for stronger international backing to confront Russian aggression.
