Ukrainian Forces Report Major Gains for February 2026: 285 Square Kilometers Liberated.
Syrskyi Details Ukrainian Military Achievements for February
According to Novyny.live: In a summary of operations for February 2026, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi highlighted the critical importance of reclaiming territory and striking Russian targets. During the month, Ukrainian forces successfully regained control of 285.6 square kilometers of Ukrainian land. This represents a significant achievement since the operation's commencement, bringing the total area liberated to over 400 square kilometers.
Ukrainian military activity in February was extensive, including 228 missile strikes and 104 airstrikes. Furthermore, Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles executed 293,800 combat missions. Key operational outcomes included:
- The destruction of 85 targets using DeepStrike systems;
- A reduction in the Russian Federation's overall oil refining capacity by 24.8%;
- An 18% decrease in Russian FPV drone deployments during February.
Syrskyi noted that despite facing a Russian aggressor with a numerical advantage of nearly three-to-one, the active operations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are forcing the enemy to postpone planned offensives, patch holes in their defenses, and redeploy troops from other sectors.
“For the first time since 2024, when we conducted the Kursk offensive operation, our troops have liberated a larger area of Ukrainian land in one month than the enemy has managed to seize in the same period,” emphasized the Commander-in-Chief.
In related actions, the Security Service of Ukraine attacked the port of 'Novorossiysk' in Russia's Krasnodar Krai on the night of March 2, 2026. The previous day, on March 1, Ukrainian forces struck S-300 radar stations. These long-range strikes are part of a concerted effort to degrade Russian military logistics and air defense capabilities. Syrskyi also commended commanders for their diligent and professional work, singling out Major General Oleh Apostol, Commander of the Air Assault Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, for receiving the highest performance evaluation in February.
The February accomplishments of the Ukrainian military demonstrate not only frontline activity but also an evolving capacity to adapt to combat conditions. The liberation of significant territories may signal a shift in the tactics and strategic approaches of Ukrainian forces. Moreover, successful operations against critical targets inside Russia underscore the growing effectiveness of Ukraine's military in countering the aggressor. These developments are likely to have long-term implications for the trajectory of the conflict and the broader regional security situation.
