Ukraine Regains Control of Southern Territory

According to UATV: On February 23, 2023, Ukraine's Armed Forces successfully recaptured eight settlements on the southern front, liberating more than 300 square kilometers of territory. This advance marks a significant step in Ukraine's ongoing campaign to restore its territorial integrity and repel the invasion. The recaptured area is strategically important for Ukraine's defensive posture in the south.

Among the liberated settlements is the village of Prymorske, located near Stepnohorsk, which is now almost fully under Ukrainian Defense Forces' control. The total area reclaimed exceeds 300 sq. km. This progress comes as Russian forces are simultaneously intensifying their own offensive operations in other sectors.

The Frontline Situation

Russian Federation forces managed to advance 6.5 km deep into Ukrainian defenses along the Stepnohorsk axis. However, on other frontline sections, such as Huliaipole and Stepnohorsk, Russian troops failed to achieve success, as noted by Bratchuk:

Representatives of the Ukrainian military, including paratroopers, have confirmed that the 7th Air Assault Corps and other units are now controlling the 'grey zone'. This indicates active efforts by Ukrainian forces to consolidate and strengthen their positions in the south.

The recapture of this significant southern territory is a crucial development in the ongoing conflict. It demonstrates the Ukrainian military's capacity to counter Russian offensives and fortify its defensive lines. Meanwhile, the intensification of Russian offensive actions points to a continued high-tension situation on the front, which will likely influence the conflict's trajectory and both sides' strategies in the near term.
