Poland Launches Its First Military Satellite: Mission Details with SpaceX

Poland launches its first military SAR satellite. The launch is scheduled from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California on November 22 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, reports the Satnews website.

New satellites for the Polish armed forces are being developed by a consortium of the Finnish company ICEYE in collaboration with Wojskowe Zakłady Łączności No 1. The latter is a subsidiary of the state defense group PGZ and part of the national satellite reconnaissance system.

Surveillance Systems for the Armed Forces

This satellite is Poland's first military device equipped with a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system. The project aims to create an Earth observation system for the Polish armed forces in response to Russia's aggression in Ukraine.

In November, the launch of three military satellites aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is planned as part of the Transporter-15 mission. The launch date has been postponed from November 11 to November 22, coinciding with Veterans Day in the USA.

Agreement with the Consortium of Manufacturers

According to a contract signed by the Polish Ministry of National Defense with the consortium of manufacturers in May last year, the country will receive at least three satellites under the MikroSAR program, with the option to purchase three more. The initial cost of the agreement is approximately 860 million zlotys (237 million dollars).

As a reminder, on October 15, SpaceX successfully launched 21 satellites for the new U.S. military communication system.
