Release of Belarusian political prisoners
According to ТСН: 109 former Belarusian political prisoners have been successfully delivered to Poland and Lithuania.
This information was provided by the Coordination Staff for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. Thanks to close cooperation between Ukraine and international partners, representatives of the Belarusian opposition, journalists, and public figures who had faced political persecution for years have been released.
“They were welcomed in Warsaw by relatives, volunteers, journalists, and diplomats,”
the staff's message states. According to their data, some of the released will remain in Poland, while others will head to Lithuania.
The Coordination Staff expressed gratitude to the USA, the governments of European countries, and all partners who supported this humanitarian mission for their support and solidarity in the defense of human rights.
It is noteworthy that the Coordination Staff for the Treatment of Prisoners of War also reported an event that took place on December 13 between Ukraine and Belarus, during which civilians were returned. At the request and with the assistance of American partners, 114 civilians were handed over to Ukraine, among whom were Belarusian political prisoners and Ukrainian detainees held in Belarus.
This step could mark a new stage in relations between Ukraine and Belarus, as well as an important signal to the international community about the need to support human rights in the region. The release of political prisoners was made possible through the joint efforts of various states and organizations, signaling an increase in international solidarity in the defense of democratic values.
