Armenia's Parliamentary Elections Underway
According to UATV: Voting began in Armenia on June 7 for parliamentary elections, with 18 political forces—including 16 parties and two blocs—vying for seats. A total of 2,005 polling stations have been opened, and electronic voting is available for diplomats, as no overseas polling stations have been established. At least 101 lawmakers are set to be elected.
Opposition and External Pressures
Armenia's Central Election Commission has confirmed that the opposition party 'Strong Armenia' will remain on the ballot, despite attempts to disqualify it. These elections unfold amid external pressures, notably from the Kremlin, which has threatened Armenia with consequences if it moves closer to the European Union.
“The European Union will support Armenia in countering Russian pressure” — Anuar El-Anouni
This vote marks a critical juncture for Armenia, as its outcome could reshape the regional political landscape and the country's ties with international partners. The results are expected to reflect public sentiment on foreign policy, particularly regarding relations with Russia and the EU, which may in turn affect stability across the region.
