30 years of the legendary game. How "Dynamo" defeated "Spartak" in the Champions League.
First victory of "Dynamo" in the Champions League
Thirty years ago, in the first round of the group stage of the 1994/95 Champions League season, a match took place between Kyiv's "Dynamo" and Moscow's "Spartak". The confrontation before the match on September 14 was very tense, but the match itself was even more hostile.
"Spartak" scored two goals before the break and went into halftime with a score of 0:2.
But at the beginning of the second half, Viktor Leonenko scored two goals, and Kyiv's victory was secured by Serhiy Rebrov with an accurate shot in the 86th minute.
Starting lineup of "Dynamo": Shovkovskyi - Luzhny, Vashchuk, Lezhentsev, Shmatovalenko, Kovalets, Kosovskyi, Skachenko, Mykhailenko, Leonenko, Pryzetko.
Substitutes: Khomin, Rebrov.
Coach: Yozhef Sabo.
This victory was the only success of "Dynamo" in that group stage. The Kyiv team was eliminated from the Champions League, finishing last in their group.
