There are almost no volunteers for the infantry: who is currently joining assault brigades.
According to ТСН: The situation with voluntary recruitment into the Armed Forces of Ukraine has noticeably changed since the onset of full-scale invasion. Currently, the main needs of combat units for manpower are provided by territorial recruitment centers (TRC).
This information was voiced by the head of the recruitment department of the 5th separate assault brigade (SAB), Tarasenko.
He noted that the real state of affairs indicates a lack of desire among people to go to the most dangerous front positions. In particular, this concerns the infantry, which performs a significant part of combat tasks.
"Unfortunately, 99% of the needs of ordinary units in infantrymen are provided by TRC. People are not coming voluntarily now with a desire to become infantrymen, to participate in assaults and clear the woods," emphasized the representative of the 5th SAB.
Who becomes a volunteer
Tarasenko added, that there are still volunteers, but their number has become very small. This is only a "meager part of people" who consciously choose the path of an assault warrior.
According to recruiters' observations, this decision is most often made by young people who realize the necessity of defending the country with weapons in hand.
Why the infantry is critically important
Tarasenko emphasized that without infantry units, holding the front is impossible, even considering the development of technologies and drones.
"The front line of the war exists only where a specific infantryman sits in a specific trench," summarized the military.
Thus, in the absence of a mass influx of volunteers, the role of TRC in supporting the country's defense capability remains extremely important.
Moreover, the head of the President's Office, Kyrylo Budanov, held an extended meeting with the leadership of the General Staff, the Ground Forces, the National Guard, and law enforcement agencies regarding corruption in the TRC and SP system and cases of AWOL in the troops.
He emphasized that these problems directly affect the defense capability of the state, promising to adopt clear and effective solutions, stressing the unacceptability of abuses and undermining military discipline.
In the context of the growing threat from the aggressor, it is important for citizens to realize their responsibility and readiness to defend the country. Every volunteer can stand up to defend their homeland, but the need for support and reform of the recruitment system remains urgent.
