Antony on Ignoring at Manchester United: What Happened Behind the Scenes.
Antony Complains About Lack of Respect During His Departure from Manchester United
According to The Sun: Antony noted that during his departure from Manchester United, his treatment was not respectful enough.
The footballer was placed on the list of players the club did not plan to use after returning from a loan at Real Betis. Eventually, he moved there permanently for an initial fee of £21.5 million.
During this time, he had to wait for a new transfer while Manchester United lowered the price before the transfer window closed, leading to his exile for several weeks.
Antony feels that he did not receive enough attention, and nobody even wished him good morning.
“Look, I'm not the one involved in controversies, calling people out, but I feel there was some neglect, even some disrespect, as nobody wished me good morning,”
he stated to ESPN Brazil. 'But, anyway, that is the past, I won’t give much importance to these things. Right now I’m here at Betis, and that is the most important for me.'
Responsibility for Failures at Manchester United
When asked why his three years at United after moving from Ajax for £85 million did not pan out, Antony replied: 'I take my responsibilities.'
“I believe that off-field matters have greatly affected me, my game. I know my potential, I know my qualities, I did not play in the World Cup for nothing,”
he said. “I also take responsibility for things not working out, for not playing as I wanted. But I always try to see the bright side of things; going through this process, this time at United, I understood myself.”
Antony also faced accusations of rudeness towards the dining staff during his time at Old Trafford.
He shared that he spent more than 40 days in a hotel costing £175 per night while waiting for his exit from the club.
“It was very difficult months in England, more than 40 days in a hotel, training separately…”
He added: “I feel that I wasn’t given adequate attention, but it doesn’t matter. I don’t want to create controversies; that’s life.”
Antony emphasized that he has things to thank the club for, as there were both bad and good times that earned him two titles.
Noting that his family arrived in Seville a few days before the deal was finalized, he added: 'I already had a rented house. I communicated with them, my heart was telling me to return to Betis.'
Antony impressed everyone under ex-Man City and West Ham coach Manuel Pellegrini, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in just 26 matches during his loan spell.
Shutterstock EditorialThe time Antony spent at Manchester United was not an easy experience for him. The footballer feels that the lack of attention from the club negatively affected his game.
