Nathan Collins escaped a red card in the match against Manchester United: former referee criticized the decision.
According to The Sun: In the match between Manchester United and Brentford, former Premier League referee Mark Halsey pointed out that the explanation of why Nathan Collins did not receive a red card is 'absolute nonsense.' Collins escaped a red card when he stopped Bryan Mbeumo in the penalty area, instead receiving a yellow card.
Reuters AFPVAR reviewed referee Craig Pawson's decision and left it unchanged, allowing Brentford to continue playing at full strength.
On social media, the Premier League published an explanation of the decision:
“The referee's decision to award a penalty was checked and confirmed by VAR - Collins was deemed to be the one who stopped Mbeumo.”
“VAR also checked the referee's decision for a yellow card for Collins - considering that Mbeumo did not have control of the ball.”
Bruno Fernandes missed the penalty, and Halsey noted that the referees' explanation only intensified feelings of grievance in Manchester United. He emphasized:
“In the statement from the Match Centre, it was said that Mbeumo did not have control of the ball.”
“The rules do not state that the ball must be under control.”
“It is about the likelihood of maintaining control of the ball.”
“In my opinion, the Match Centre's statement is absolutely absurd, and it was a clear denial of the opportunity to score.”
“Manchester United will be very unhappy with this decision.”
Halsey also believes that “a red card should have been shown to the Brentford player.”
At the time the penalty was awarded, Brentford was leading 2-1 thanks to a brace from Igor Thiago, while Benjamin Sesko reduced the deficit for United. However, the team could not recover after that moment, and the 'Bees' secured a confident victory.

Trevoh Chalobah was rightly sent off after VAR review.
Referee Simon Hooper initially did not impose a penalty for the Chelsea defender’s foul on Diego Gomes from Brighton. However, VAR provided the opportunity for review, and Hooper made the right decision.
Chalobah attempted to play the ball, but he was sent off because he obstructed Gomes, who had a clear opportunity to score in the penalty area.
If the foul had occurred within the penalty area, it could have led to a penalty, but only a yellow card was decided.
Brighton was denied a penalty for a serious foul by Malo Gusto on Yankubi Minteki while the score was still 1-1.
The Match Centre noted that there was no “specific evidence” that Gusto touched the ball, but he clearly struck Minteki's head. Fortunately, this decision did not affect the outcome of the game.
Keith Andrews' team earned three points when Mads Jensen scored the third goal in the final minutes of the match.
This defeat left the Red Devils in 13th place in the standings, just two places above their 15th place from last season. The pressure on manager Ruben Amorim is increasing, but he does not feel concern about his future.
He stated:
“I never worry about my job - I am not that kind of person.”
“It is not my decision. I will do my best every minute while I am here.”
