The popularity of electric cars from the USA is growing: what Ukrainians choose

In the last month, Ukrainians purchased nearly 4,800 used cars from the USA, making the United States one of the countries with the highest number of cars coming to Ukraine. This was reported by UkrAvtoprom.

What used cars from the USA are popular in Ukraine

The average age of used cars from the USA purchased by Ukrainians is 5.5 years. The most popular among them are electric cars (43%), followed by gasoline cars (41%), hybrids (8%), as well as diesel and gas cars with 4% of the market each. The leaders in terms of the number of sold cars include the following models:

  • Tesla Model Y — 711 cars.
  • Tesla Model 3 — 555 cars.
  • Ford Escape — 347 cars.
  • Nissan Rogue — 260 cars.
  • BMW X5 — 227 cars.

Why prices for electric cars may rise

The General Director of the All-Ukrainian Association of Automotive Importers and Dealers (VAAID), Oleg Nazarenko, said that a significant increase in the import of electric cars is expected in the remaining months of 2025. From January 1, 2026, the preferential terms for importing electric cars to Ukraine will expire, which may lead to an increase in their prices by almost a third. This leads to importers trying to accelerate the import of electric cars by the end of the year.

However, in the first quarter of 2026, we are likely to observe a significant decrease or cessation of electric car imports.

Currently, about half of Ukrainians own a car, and when choosing a model, they are guided not only by the price but also by comfort and convenience. In addition, there are paid parking lots in many large cities of Ukraine, although there are categories of citizens who can use them for free.

Ukrainians actively buy used cars from the USA, most often opting for electric cars and gasoline cars. However, it is expected that prices for electric cars may rise due to the expiration of preferential terms for their import to Ukraine, which may lead to a rapid increase in the import of these cars by the end of 2025.
