The European integration of Moldova and Georgia should not be associated with Ukraine for many reasons. Undoubtedly, it will be easier for Moldova to integrate than for Ukraine, as it will not affect the EU's internal problems.
'Moldova is a small country, with a population of 2 or 3 million, so the European Union can easily 'digest' Moldova. Ukraine, on the contrary, cannot, as it is a large country that requires many resources to level its development. In Eastern Europe, there are many competitors who are not pleased with Ukraine's approach to the EU', noted Zahorodnii.
Zahorodnii also added that Ukraine has prospects in many aspects, so joining the EU may negatively affect neighboring countries with smaller economies, such as Slovakia and Hungary.
'In particular, Poland will suffer, understanding that Ukraine's accession will lead to tension, competition for resources, labor, economy, and finance. Ukraine's accession to the EU will change the political landscape as a whole. Eastern Europe will essentially be formed as a separate center of influence. This does not suit France and Germany, who will lose control over the management of the EU', explained Zahorodnii.
Referring to Georgia, Zahorodnii noted that nobody will protect this country and it will choose its path by itself. He emphasized that after the Russian-Georgian war, the West, particularly the USA, did not punish the Kremlin for aggression.
'Essentially, Georgia is now left without protection and has no other choice but to choose an independent policy. Leadership in the USA or the EU may change, which will become immediately noticeable. However, over the past 10 years, Western policy has led to Georgia moving away from the declared standards', believes Taras Zahorodnii.
