Announcement of the Olympics on July 31

On the fifth day of the 2024 Olympic Games, 17 Ukrainian athletes will try to demonstrate good results in sports such as artistic gymnastics, shooting, swimming, rowing, boxing, slalom canoeing, diving, and tennis.

Today, the main medal hopes are in women's synchronized diving, women's doubles artistic gymnastics, and the final of the men's individual all-around in artistic gymnastics. There are also prospects in slalom canoeing, but first, they need to overcome the semifinal stage.

Ksenia Bailo and Sofia Lyskun will represent Ukraine in the final of the 10-meter platform diving. Despite being young, these experienced athletes have won the European Championship this year and finished fifth at the World Championship. They are not the main favorites for winning an Olympic medal, but with flawless execution of their five dives, the Ukrainians can create a sensation.

The main medal hope in rowing is the women's lightweight quadruple sculls. Dovhodko, Dudchenko, Verhoglyad, and Kozhenkova successfully completed the previous races, finishing second after the Dutch boat. In the final, they face the challenging task of winning the first medal in rowing since 2012. It won't be easy in such a competitive final, but it is quite possible.

The final of the men's individual all-around in artistic gymnastics, featuring two of our leaders, Ilya Kovtun and Oleg Vernyayev, will be a fiercely contested event. Throughout the Olympic cycle, Kovtun has won two world championship medals in this discipline, while Vernyayev recently placed second at the continental championship. The Ukrainians have difficult exercises on most apparatuses, so they will be among the contenders for medals at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Victoria Us will also try to improve her performance compared to her first discipline. A few days ago, she finished 18th in the semifinals in canoeing, and today she will compete in the same stage in canoeing. Our leading slalomist completed the qualification quite well, finishing ninth.

Qualifying in shooting will be crucial for Serhiy Kulish, as he enters the battle in the strongest category of weapons - small-bore rifle. It is precisely in the three-position rifle shooting at the fifty-meter range where he became the world champion in 2022 and the silver medalist at this year's European Championship. To compete for medals, Kulish needs to make it to the top eight, which is quite a challenging task in such a competitive discipline.

Our rowers Stanislav Kovalyov and Ihor Khmara will vie for a spot in the final in the lightweight men's double sculls. They advanced to the semifinal stage through a pleasing round, but with the 2022 World Championship medal behind them, they can surprise many.

Alexander Zheltyakov will compete in his second distance. Our swimmer holds the Ukrainian record in the 200-meter backstroke and won gold at the 2024 European Championship, so he has a shot at qualifying for the Olympic semifinals.

It will also be an important day for our tennis players, as Marta Kostyuk will fight to reach the top four in the singles competition, while Ludmyla and Nadiia Kichenok will play for a spot in the doubles quarterfinals. Ukrainian boxer Ayder Abdraimov will also attempt to advance to the quarterfinals, where he will have to defeat one of the tournament favorites, a Cuban representing Bulgaria.
