The referee in Arsenal's match broke protocol: what the spectators heard

According to The Sun: Jarrod Gillet witnessed a breach of PGMOL protocol during the match 'Arsenal' vs 'Newcastle', where the London team won 2-1.

However, the referee should not be blamed for this. This might become a new approach where officials provide more information regarding their decisions.

Some attentive 'Arsenal' fans were able to hear the conversation between Gillet and Bukayo Saka through the sound system at the stadium, as the referee's microphone was accidentally left on.

This private conversation was not meant to become public.

'Arsenal' fans were outraged when Gillet, initially awarding a penalty after the clash between Viktor Gyökeres and goalkeeper Nick Pope, went to review the moment on the VAR monitor.

After lengthy discussions – for which Gillet received significant criticism – the referee overturned the penalty decision, believing that Pope had initially touched the ball, although he did knock Gyökeres down.

Gillet announced his decision to the public: “After reviewing, the Newcastle goalkeeper plays the ball, and no foul occurred. The final decision is a goal kick.”

Unexpectedly, Gillet could also be heard in conversation with Saka when he said: “Before any contact, the goalkeeper touches the ball, that's why.”

This additional information could have been helpful for fans, as Gillet explained his decision.

However, many 'Arsenal' fans were still disappointed that Gillet again became the center of attention in their matches.
