Saliba has become an important figure for Arsenal since breaking into the first team in 2022.
For his impressive performances, he was awarded a contract worth £250,000 per week.
As a result, he has become the third highest-paid player at the Emirates, trailing only Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz.
Manager's Comments
Head coach Mikel Arteta commented on the deal:
“William is loved by all the players and staff, and that speaks volumes about his character, commitment, and attitude every day.”
“Since joining us, William has grown in his development, taken on responsibility, and established a close connection with our fans and everyone at the club.”
“We know there is still much more to come from him, and we will continue to work together with a clear ambition to win major trophies.”
Saliba is the latest Arsenal player to sign a new contract, following Gabriel, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Ethan Nwaneri.
Arsenal is now focusing on securing a new deal with Bukayo Saka.
After signing the new contract, the likelihood of offers from interested clubs like Real Madrid has decreased.
His previous contract was set to expire in 2027, at the same time as Gabriel Martinelli's and Leandro Trossard's deals.
Club Policy
Arsenal adheres to a policy of avoiding situations where players enter the final year of their contracts, as it weakens the club's position during sale negotiations.
The club currently has seven players earning over £200,000 per week, including summer signing Viktor Gyökeres.
It is worth noting that Saliba's previous deal included a salary of around £175,000 per week. Now, Arsenal's wage bill will increase again to £328 million per year, as recorded in their report until May 2024.
The signing of a new contract with Saliba underscores the club's stability and their readiness to retain key players, which can positively impact the team's results in the future. It could also encourage other players to stay at Arsenal, given the club's growing ambitions to compete for major trophies on the international stage.Read also
