Tragic Incident in Sri Lanka

According to The Sun: At least 15 people died when an overcrowded tourist bus fell nearly 300 meters off a mountain road.

The accident occurred on Thursday evening near the town of Wellawaya in the mountainous region of Ella, located 130 km east of the capital Colombo.

Sixteen people, including five children, were injured but managed to escape from the wreckage.

Authorities confirmed that the group consisted of local tourists visiting the picturesque tea plantations of the area.

Photos show the destroyed bus after the horrific fall.

The bus has a partially torn roof, with broken seats and glass scattered on the grass.

Soldiers cordoned off the scene and are conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident.

An eyewitness reported that the bus driver managed to warn passengers of the impending disaster moments before the fall.

It is possible that the bus's brake system failed after colliding with oncoming traffic.

The conductor urged everyone to lean down and hold on tightly, as reported by a witness.

In a few seconds, the bus struck the barrier at the edge of the road and plunged into the ravine.

A woman said: “I was thrown out of the bus through a broken window.”

Police spokesperson Frederick Wutler noted that preliminary investigations revealed that the driver likely exceeded the speed limit and lost control of the vehicle during the accident.

This incident is the worst since May when 23 passengers died in a bus accident in Kotmale.

The bus fell along the main Nuwara Eliya-Gampola road in the Gerandi Ella area.

At the foot of the slope, the bus overturned, getting stuck in bushes and trees.

Sinister images show that the roof of the bus is actually torn off, exposing empty seats.
