Oleh Popenko, head of the Union of Utility Consumers and expert in housing and communal services, spoke about the problems associated with the installation of solar panels on the facades and balconies of high-rise buildings.

In an interview with UNN, he expressed his doubts about projects for the installation of solar panels for residents of apartment buildings.

"I have many questions regarding projects for the installation of solar panels in apartment buildings, such as, for example, at 16 Mykola Bazhan Avenue, where almost a million euros were invested in solar panels, and they still did not work there," he said.

The expert explained the main problems, noting that "on facades and balconies, the problem lies in their mounting and connection to the power grids".

"Neither balconies nor facades are adapted for mounting solar panels on them. For example, with strong winds and poor mountings, they can come off, and in fact, with any mountings," he said.

Apart from technical issues, Popenko drew attention to legal aspects, noting that installing solar panels on a high-rise building violates improvement standards.

"Regarding private houses, I absolutely support it; it is correct. Most private houses have the opportunity (for the installation of solar panels - ed.). Probably, the state should support people in private houses with the installation of solar panels," he added.

Popenko also positively assessed the prospects for using solar panels for businesses and noted that they would be effective if funds were directed not only to solar panels but also to batteries and energy storage systems.

Earlier, it was reported that Kyiv residents can receive compensation for purchasing generators and solar panels.
