Elections in Germany will not affect support for Ukraine - Bundeswehr general.
Major General of the Bundeswehr Christoph Freuding, coordinator of German military assistance to Ukraine, stated that the meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the 'Ramstein' format should take place before the change of the presidential administration in the USA to send a clear signal to partners about unwavering support.
Christoph Freuding also noted that the German Minister of Defense is negotiating with colleagues from France, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Poland to reinforce plans if the USA reduces assistance.
The general expressed the opinion that the European Union and NATO can provide enough resources to assist Ukraine. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the Armed Forces of Ukraine and helping Ukrainian forces to operate from a position of strength.
Freuding hopes that the meeting in the 'Ramstein' format will take place in December before the change of administration in the USA and will send a clear signal regarding the continuation of support for Ukraine. He also assured that regardless of the outcome of the upcoming elections in Germany, Germany will continue to support Ukraine.
The general noted that this war has been going on for over 10 years and it is important to explain this to the public, especially in Western Europe.
