Barcelona is building a unique roof structure for the stadium: what we know.
Ambitious project to modernize Barcelona stadium
According to The Sun: The management of FC Barcelona intends to implement ambitious plans for their stadium to become a benchmark for competitors worldwide.
The Catalans have been playing home matches away from their stadium, Camp Nou, for more than two years.
Barcelona planned to return to Camp Nou last November GettyInitially, the club planned to return to the renovated stadium last November, but various delays prevented that.
Now the club is ready to gradually bring back fans, but management is preparing another surprise that could lead the team to once again switch to temporary conditions.
According to information from Sport, the Turkish company Limak Construction, which performed the renovation, has engaged a specialized contractor to create a 'horizontal roof in the shape of a bicycle wheel.'
Thick spokes will be installed to support this impressive structure, which is reminiscent of the roof of Atlético Madrid's Metropolitano Stadium.
This roof will be the final part of a project worth 1.3 billion pounds, and the club's management hopes to complete it by 2027.
It has been mentioned that 'heads will roll' if the deadlines stretch to 2028, considering the already existing delays.
Builders will need about four months without fans to install the roof structure.
Thus, the team is likely to have to find another temporary place to play at the end of the 2026/27 season and the beginning of the next season during the installation of the facility.

Fans and players hope that all these difficulties are worth it when the 104,000-seat stadium opens its doors.
At the beginning of the project, Barcelona's president Joan Laporta assured that he would make it the best stadium in the world.
“We will make the new Spotify Camp Nou the safest, most comfortable, most commercial, and also the most exciting stadium in the world.”
“Together we will make it the best stadium in the world at the level of the best club in the world, this Football Club Barcelona.”
