Two months after his 76th birthday, Hearn fulfilled his dream and participated in the US Open Pool Championship in Atlantic City.
The British host Andy Goldstein also participated in the draw.
The 70-year-old Hearn played against Polish professional Konrad Juszczyszyn and made a bet with his son, who is the head of Matchroom Sport, that he would win at least one round.
Hearn, now 77, managed to sink two balls on the nine, earning him a point. Although he ultimately lost 9-1, he wildly celebrated his sporting achievement.
Tattoos and personal ambitions
During the preparation, Hearn wore a black shirt with the nickname 'The Guvnor' on the back. When he took off his yellow shirt, Goldstein noticed the tattoos on his arms – 'FAMILY' on his right bicep and 'LIFE' on his left.
Goldstein asked:
“When did you get these tattoos?”
Hearn replied:
“The first? That’s Las Vegas. Eddie said it’s the worst tattoo he’s ever seen.
“And then, five years later, I came back and got the second one.”
“The only two words that mean something to me in the world. Family and life.
“And now, of course, Eddie is terribly envious.
“He won’t admit it, but he definitely wants a tattoo.”

Hearn, who celebrated his appearance at the table with a glass of red wine, has been in the sports promotions business for 45 years, but this was an opportunity for him to play against professionals.
He prepared for the tournament by training with six-time snooker world champion Steve Davis, who also played pool at a high level.
Hearn defended his participation in the tournament, stating:
“I will just be who I have always wanted to be – the best I can be.
“People will laugh at me. That’s okay. They live a very superficial life because they have never reached for the stars.”
“But if I fall to the top of the trees, I will accept it. Of course, I have pride. I don’t like to lose.
“And here I am completely devastated. When I made that shot, I thought of what Steve had told me: ‘Trust yourself. Push the cue straight. Don’t miss the chance to engage.”
“That made my year. That made my life. When the two hit the nine and the nine fell into the pocket, someone released something.
“One round at the US Open. Does that mean anything? No, I still lost. But I had my moment in the sun.”

Hearn joked that Eddie thinks of him as
“the worst tattoo in the world.”
“Trust yourself and just do your best – those are probably the words on my grave.
“You have to find something new. Call me when you go to Everest…”
In other episodes of the series, Hearn fishes at his private pond, which has 64 carp, all named after colleagues, including famous dart and snooker players.
This is part of his recovery after prostate cancer surgery, which caused him to miss the title fight for the world championship at Wembley Stadium last September.
In a conversation with Eddie, Hearn senior said:
“This is my place. This is my retreat. And I think when I go, my ashes can stay here, please.”
Eddie Hearn replied:
“What, in the pond?”
Barry Hearn confirmed:
“Throw them in the pond.”
Eddie Hearn jokingly suggested:
“We could do it this way: you know how to weigh fish? Do you mark them? Instead of you being cremated, I could just throw you right in and mark you.
“And when we empty the pond, we could pull you out and weigh you – and see how you’re doing.”Barry Hearn, a 77-year-old promotion veteran, has been active in sports for over 45 years. His participation in the US Open Pool Championship and his openness about tattoos were a new step in his long career. After his prostate cancer surgery, he celebrates his return to active life through a hobby that brings him joy. Hearn proves that age is just a number and that it is important to live fully and achieve new goals despite health challenges.
