Starting October 1, millions of Ukrainians will receive basic social assistance: new conditions.
According to inkorr.com: Starting October 1, a new government project has kicked off in Ukraine, expanding the opportunities for receiving basic social assistance. Now low-income families can apply for this assistance, which was previously provided only to specific categories of the population. However, one must meet quite strict requirements to receive it.
Journalist Iryna Polyakova explained in a video that this basic assistance is the only payment that replaces other social benefits during its receipt. The pilot project that started in July was successful, prompting the government to extend it to a larger number of people.
“We experimented, experimented, and we have ended up experimenting,” the journalist noted.
Conditions for receiving assistance
Starting October 1, 2025, assistance will be available for all families in controlled territories of Ukraine whose income is below the state-defined basic level. Previously, the program was intended only for specific groups of citizens, such as low-income families or parents who do not receive alimony, but now it is accessible to all who meet the income requirements.
The amount of assistance is determined as the difference between the basic level and the family's actual average monthly income. The application process consists of two stages: first, one needs to submit an application for receiving assistance, and then for its assignment. It is important to remember that with the assignment of basic social assistance, all other state payments are automatically suspended.
“When you apply for basic assistance, you automatically agree to the termination of previously provided types of social payments,” emphasized Iryna Polyakova.
Criteria for denial of assistance
A denial of basic social assistance may be related to property criteria, such as the possession of real estate, a car, significant purchases, savings, or able-bodied family members. If false information about income or property is discovered, the payments can not only be suspended but also reclaimed.
This new government project that allows more families to receive social assistance signals an intention to support those in need amidst rising prices and economic difficulties. However, it is important to note that the conditions for receiving it remain strict, and non-compliance may lead to serious consequences.
