BBC acquires rights to broadcast the Women's Champions League
According to The Sun: BBC has confirmed that this season it has acquired rights to broadcast the Women's Champions League.
Viewers will be able to watch seven live matches, including the final, on BBC channels, as well as on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website.
ReutersThe program will also feature both semifinals and four matches from previous rounds.
Highlights from other matches will be available on BBC Sport's digital platforms and social media.
This was made possible by a new five-year contract with UEFA for broadcasting this elite league.
First Matches
The first match to be shown live is scheduled for November 12, where Manchester United will face Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford.
Next will be the match between Chelsea and Barcelona, which will take place on November 20 at Stamford Bridge.
BBC's sports director, Alex Kay-Jelski, said: “This is a wonderful moment for women's football and for BBC Sport. “Showing the Women's Champions League on a free platform is a significant step, but the real advantage is our digital offering. “Our multi-platform strategy will allow fans not only to watch the biggest matches on television, but also to enjoy the best moments and goals on our website, in the app, and on social media.”
“We are making this tournament more accessible, visible, and connected than ever before.”
This news came just hours after it was revealed that BBC Sport had lost the rights to the annual boat race between Cambridge and Oxford.
Disney+ has secured the rights to broadcast all Women's Champions League matches for the next five seasons.
Wide Broadcast
The streaming service will broadcast all 75 matches in Europe, starting next week, with the broadcasts being produced by ESPN - Disney's multimedia sports brand.
Arsenal won the tournament last season, defeating the reigning champions Barcelona 1-0 in the final.
