Belgian Forces Seize Russian 'Shadow Fleet' Tanker, Vessel Under Arrest.
Oil Tanker Seized in Coordinated Operation
According to UATV: Belgian armed forces, with support from the French Ministry of Defence, have taken control of an oil tanker linked to Russia's so-called 'shadow fleet'. This special operation resulted in the seizure of the vessel, which is part of a network used to circumvent international sanctions on Russian oil. The action underscores the ongoing international efforts to counter the activities of this clandestine maritime network.
Theo Francken, a representative of the Belgian armed forces, stated:
"In recent hours, our armed forces, supported by the French Ministry of Defence, have boarded an oil tanker belonging to the Russian shadow fleet."Following its capture, the tanker is being escorted to the port of Zeebrugge, where it will be formally placed under arrest.
International Cooperation Against Sanctions Evasion
This incident highlights the intensifying international campaign to disrupt the operations of the Russian shadow fleet and its regional influence. The seizure marks a significant step within broader global efforts to restrict maritime activities that serve Russian interests.
The operation may signal a strengthening of collaboration between European Union nations on security and the monitoring of sea lanes potentially used for sanctions evasion. Such coordinated actions are becoming increasingly common as Western allies target the financial and logistical networks supporting Russia.
