Concerns Over Rising Fuel Prices

According to Novyny.live: On March 5, 2023, Ukrainian Member of Parliament Nina Yuzhanina expressed serious concern that gasoline prices in Ukraine could rise to 150 hryvnia per liter unless the Antimonopoly Committee intervenes. She warned that without necessary price control measures, this sharp increase could become a reality. This warning comes amidst ongoing economic pressures in the country following Russia's full-scale invasion.

As of March 5, 2023, the price of A-95 Euro gasoline in Kharkiv was 70.99 UAH per liter. In the capital, Kyiv, prices for the same fuel varied significantly:

  • from 67.90 UAH to 74.89 UAH per liter;
  • in Odesa, the cost ranged from 69.49 UAH to 80.99 UAH per liter;
  • Lviv also showed considerable price fluctuations, with costs at some stations jumping to 80.99 UAH per liter.
Nina Yuzhanina pointed out that 'we will see the increase in fuel prices reflected in literally all products.'

This statement highlights that rising fuel costs could trigger increases in the price of other goods and services across Ukraine. She stressed the critical importance of action by the Antimonopoly Committee to prevent further fuel price hikes.

Economic Impact of Higher Gasoline Prices

A surge in gasoline prices could have severe economic consequences for Ukraine, as increased transportation costs typically lead to more expensive goods and services, potentially suppressing consumer demand. Given the broader economic challenges, proactive measures from the Antimonopoly Committee are seen as vital for controlling prices and preventing market speculation in the fuel sector.
