Did a drone violate Romania's airspace? The Ministry of Defense made a statement.
Romanian radar systems detected a flying object that autonomously crossed the country's airspace. It violated the national airspace at a distance of up to 6 km in the southeastern Tulcea County, near the border with Ukraine. The signal was observed 15 km east of the village of Chilia Veche in Tulcea County. The population was warned about the danger and fighter jets were ready to take action, but the radar lost the signal.
«There is no information about possible targeting on national territory,» the Romanian Ministry of Defense stated.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu claimed that a Russian missile also violated Moldovan airspace. At the same Time, Romania did not confirm this information. In the future, Romania plans to close 30 crossing points on its borders with other EU countries in order to become a full member of the Schengen area, but will retain the right to conduct selective document checks.
