Statement by a Kherson Regional Council Deputy

According to Novyny.live: Serhiy Khlan, a deputy of the Kherson Regional Council, has stated that a direct military intervention by Belarus in the war against Ukraine is highly improbable. Speaking on the program 'Evening.LIVE,' he emphasized that the Belarusian army is far too weak to pose any real threat to Ukraine. Khlan further asserted that the Ukrainian military is capable of destroying Belarusian industrial infrastructure within a week, making the opening of a new front unlikely. This assessment comes amid ongoing tensions, as Belarus remains a key ally of Russia in the region.

“In a week, we could level the entire industry, leaving nothing behind” - Serhiy Khlan

He added that there are currently no conditions for expanding the combat zone, citing 'a shortage of human capital in the military.' Retired Major General of the SBU Viktor Yahun highlighted Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s reluctance to drag his country into the war, further reinforcing that a direct Belarusian intervention remains unconfirmed.

Outlook on the Belarusian Front

Experts therefore consider the situation on the Belarusian front to be stable, with military action from Belarus considered highly unlikely. The loss of production capacity due to hostilities could set Belarus back decades, which is another key reason the country will probably avoid opening a new front.

This statement from Deputy Khlan and other experts underscores the importance of analyzing the military capabilities of neighboring countries in the context of the conflict with Russia. Despite Belarus’s support for Moscow, its army lacks the strength for active combat operations, reducing risks for Ukraine along this axis. While the situation could change, analysts note that for now, Belarus will most likely try to avoid open confrontation, given its own economic and military challenges.
