Ukraine Approaches Winter Without the Risk of Large-scale Blackouts: What Has Changed.
According to ТСН: Ukraine is approaching the winter season without the threat of widespread electricity outages.
According to Serhiy Nahorniak, a member of the Servant of the People faction and the parliamentary energy committee, the blackout that occurred in 2023 will not be repeated by Russia.
Nahorniak noted that now the dispatchers of Ukrenergo have clear algorithms for responding to massive attacks.
“When an air strike occurs, the dispatcher of Ukrenergo gives specific commands on the ground — to those who manage nuclear generation, thermal power plants, hydroelectric power stations, and distribution operators. This helps reduce the risks of blackouts. Therefore, I am confident: there will be no complete shutdown of the system anymore, the Russians will not be able to do this,” said the MP.
At the same time, the parliamentarian emphasized that the duration of stabilization and emergency shutdowns may vary depending on several factors:
- the activity of air attacks in a specific region;
- weather conditions;
- damage to generation and transmission facilities;
- the speed of repair work.
“On average, we will go through the heating season with the same schedules as now. Everything depends on whether the winter will be cold or warm,” emphasized the deputy.
It was previously reported about the critical financial condition of Ukrainian water suppliers, which may lead to their disconnection from the electricity grid and cessation of water supply in large cities.
Meanwhile, Kyiv is preparing for prolonged power outages. Residents of the capital should prepare for significant restrictions on electricity supply this winter.
Overall, the energy supply situation in Ukraine remains tense. Although experts assure that large-scale outages are not planned, residents should be ready for possible disruptions, especially in the context of potential attacks. Long-term and high-quality resolution of issues will be critically important to ensure stable energy supply during the winter period.
